The Indiana Geological Survey announced that this morning that at 5:36am edt a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Indiana/Illinois border, thus confirming that I was not going mad when I woke before sunrise, believing my home to be the victim of bulldozers. I checked to be sure we weren’t experiencing unusual winds (I feared for newly planted herbs left outside) and saw a beautiful harvest moon, so all in all the day has been full of natural wonders. I’ve been doing a lot of early summer spinning, and this fleece came from Merlin the Cat Yarns, who has been having a going-out-of-business sale:

I’ve enough fleece to spin four skeins. I’m calling the color Harvest Moon in honor of this morning’s impressive horizon.
Speaking of celestial visions, these beautiful summer skies are perfect for star and planet gazing. IU’s Kirkwood observatory is open on Wednesdays again, and this week we saw a perfect image of Saturn and its rings–completely worth the late night visit. Information about visiting is posted here.
